





The U.S. - China Cold Chain Standards and Regulations Conference was successfully held in Hilton Beijing on July 21 and 22, 2009. More than 200 representatives from U.S. and China government agencies, industry associations, research institutions, cold chain equipment manufacturers /service providers and food and agricultural businesses participated in this conference.
This conference was host by Agricultural Trade Office, U.S. Embassy Beijing(ATO Beijing) , China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing (CFLP); and organized by USDA Foreign Agricultural Service(FAS), American Society of Transportation and Logistics (AST&L), National Electrical Manufacturers Association(NEMA), Ingersoll Rand, China Logistics Technology Association (CLTA). It also received the support of the Standardization Administration of China (SAC), the U.S. Department of Agricultural (USDA), U.S. Department of Commerce (USDOC) and other government agencies.
This conference was aimed at strengthening cold chain cooperation between U.S. and China and serving as a platform to share insights and experiences, including best practices and lessons learned in the development of the cold chain industry. Eric Trachtenberg(ATO Beijing),Huang Jiujiu(CFLP), Robert Goldberg(charge d' Affaires.a.i.,U.S. Embassy Beijing),Dai Dingyi(Vice Chairman, CFLP),Yang Yifan(Deputy Secretary General, CAR), Clemen Gehlhar (USDA), Dennis Gipson(Executive Vice President, Ingersoll Rand Cold Chain Group),Irene Chan (Assistant Country Director, U.S. Food and Drug Administration Beijing), Randle Macon (Assistant Branch Chief, USDA), Chung Tam (Chief Representative, AST&L), Jeff Song (President, Ingersoll Rand China), Mu Weizhong(Chairman, China Logistics Technology Association), William O’Brien(President, Greater Asia of HAVI Logistics) delivered presentations on the first day. Activities on the second day included work shops on best practices, challenges and next step for standards, producing a group report, and action plan. The participants were very enthusiastic about the brainstorming format and it produced numerous ideas.
