"Shipping Dangerous Goods by Ocean" course was successfully held in Shanghai

The "Shipping Dangerous Goods by Ocean" course offered by the Sino-US Transportation Safety Institute (TSI) was sucesfully held in Shanghai on May 14-16, 2009. Participants from DOW Corning (Zhangjiagang) Co., Huntsman Textile Effects (China) Co., Bayer Material Science Trading (Shanghai) Co., International Flavor & Fragrances Inc., DOW Corning (Shanghai) Co., Penske Logistics, Halliburton International Inc., Halliburton Energy Service (Tianjin) Ltd., Shenship Logistics Ltd., and Sanho Shanghai Logistics successfully passed the examinations to received the certifications.

The 3-day dual-certification course covered both IMDG and US DOT 49 CFR regulations for shipping dangerous goods including IMDG general provisions, classification, dangerous goods list, packing, consignment, operations and how to use the IMDG When shipping to the United States. The discussion on the United States regulation, the 49 CFR, included sections of The Hazardous Materials Table, Identification under 49 CFR, Hazardous Substances, Packaging, Marking, Labeling, Placarding, Shipping Paper instruction, emergency response information requirements and the Emergency Response Guide used in the US.

During the training, Mr. Steve Hawks shared his 40 years of his experience in international shipment, handling and storage of hazardous materials. This included many experiences and examples of successes and failures he has observed. He also provided valuable advice to the students on their problems encountered transporting dangerous goods internationally.
