ASTL receives award from United States Department of
Commerce for developing logistics training program for China

We are very excited to announce the American Society of Transportation and Logistics have been presented a Market Development Cooperator Program award by the United States Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration (ITA). The award was presented to ASTL Executive Director, Laurie Denham and ASTL Chief Representative, Chung Tam at the China World Logistics Conference in Nanjing, Jiangsu in November 2008.

The award was given for the development of a new logistics training and certification program for China, the Global Logistics Management (GLM) program.

GLM is the first program designed to transfer U.S. logistics industry best practices to train and certify practitioners in China. This program will be developed and delivered in Chinese. An expected benefit of this program is to increase the export of American logistics services and technology to China.

Today, there is enormous demand in China for a logistics training program with a balance between theory and practice which emphasizes practical operational management skills and international best practices.

GLM is targeted at mid-level management involved in international logistics where the biggest knowledge gap exists. ASTL China office will lead this project to develop a logistics training program with the following features:

• Partnership between ASTL - U.S. industry - Chinese industry - education institutions.
• Delivered in Chinese
• Based on US industry best practices
• Stress practical knowledge
• Modular to meet individual education needs

The project includes developing the training curriculum, materials, examinations, local trainers and training centers to deliver the program.
